Fractionated Laser Skin Rejuvenation at Blue Water Spa
Blue Water Spa Medical Spa Serving Raleigh, Durham, Cary and Nearby Areas
Fractionated Laser Skin Rejuvenation is an ideal laser treatment for improving the skin’s texture and tone, including acne scarring and hyperpigmentation. Any area of the face or body can be treated safely and effectively. Laser Skin Rejuvenation can be incorporated into your regular skin maintenance to keep skin looking fresh, vibrant and youthful.
This highly effective non-ablative laser takes a gentler approach to laser resurfacing, which means a safer and more comfortable treatment. Fractionated Laser Skin Rejuvenation can correct uneven pigmentation and improve the overall appearance of the skin without the risk, discomfort, recovery, or downtime associated with ablative procedures.
This FDA-approved fractionated technology produces an intense burst of light energy that ignites cellular remodeling and reduces unwanted pigment. Cellular repair stimulates collagen production which gently repairs and restores the skin. Laser energy is delivered in columns, which create controlled damage to the targeted area. This allows for faster, even improvement of the skin.
Fractionated Laser Skin Rejuvenation treatments are completely customized to your individual needs. Prior to each treatment, your skin will be assessed, and the Blue Water Spa Laser Technician will adapt the session to address your unique needs. This procedure is quick, requires no anesthesia, and involves minimal downtime.
Utilizing two lasers, both a 1550nm and a 1940nm, allows the technician to control the depth, width and intensity of energy delivered to target each skin care concern. We offer different levels of treatment customized to your skin. Depending on your areas of focus, we can use one wavelength or both to achieve the optimal results.
Fractionated Laser Skin Rejuvenation is ideal for patients of all ages. Due to the unique customization involved in each treatment, treatments can be gentle enough for younger patients looking to obtain glowing, refreshed skin and who are interested in addressing early signs of sun damage or aging. Patients seeking softer, smoother skin texture and improvement of hyperpigmentation due to aging or sun exposure, will equally benefit from this treatment.
How It Works: Fractionated Laser Skin Rejuvenation works by delivering precise, controlled bursts of energy to the skin. The generated energy stimulates collagen production, jumpstarts the skin’s healing process and rejuvenates the complexion over the months following treatment.
Downtime: Fractionated Laser Skin Rejuvenation is a non-invasive procedure. However, patients may experience redness and swelling, as well as possible itching, dryness, darkening of pigmentation and peeling. Patients must keep the area free from sun exposure for four weeks post treatment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR LASER SKIN REJUVENATION?
A complimentary virtual consultation is required prior to treatment to ensure that you are medically cleared and the ideal candidate for this procedure. The laser system is indicated for Laser Skin Rejuvenation for Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-V. Patients who are prone to hyperpigmentation or melasma, may be instructed to proactively treat the skin with a combination of products to ensure the safest treatment outcomes.
CAN ALL AREAS OF THE BODY BE TREATED?
Any area of the body can be treated safely and effectively. Our most common treatment areas include face, neck, chest, arms and hands.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED AND HOW OFTEN?
Clinical studies suggest that 3-5 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart in most cases will produce a significant increase in collagen remodeling. A series of three treatments is usually recommended, but this can vary based on the results you’d like to achieve and the skin condition you’re looking to improve.
At your virtual consultation, you will meet with an experienced Blue Water Spa Laser Technician to discuss your concerns and aesthetic goals. Together, you will develop a customized treatment plan based on your skin’s unique needs. Pricing and treatment plans will vary depending on the patient’s unique aesthetic goals.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Most patients will see results after just one treatment. These results will be evident in about 4 weeks and can take up to 6 months for the full result since new collagen production continues for months after the treatment. New collagen growth results in continued skin tightening and the development of a more youthful complexion with fewer lines, folds, and laxity of the skin.
HOW OFTEN CAN TREATMENTS BE PERFORMED?
The frequency of appointments will be based on clinical judgment. For most patients, treatment will be performed every 4 weeks.
ARE THE RESULTS PERMANENT?
Laser Skin Rejuvenation works by stimulating collagen and elastin production. This new collagen becomes part of the structure of the treated skin. Thus, results can last for years. Your results will improve over time as the production of collagen and elastin increases and fresh, healthy skin cells replace older skin cells. You’ll notice a continued improvement in the appearance of your skin as it continues to repair and heal.
HOW CAN I GET THE BEST RESULTS?
We strongly recommend that our patients ‘protect their investment’ by using a high-quality, chemical-free sunblock on a daily basis, rain or shine, summer or winter. Hats are also highly recommended in the summer months. Appropriate protection from damaging UV rays can prevent the recurrence of the aging.
We utilize Gentle Waves Photomodulation Light Therapy, technology used by NASA for wound healing, to accelerate the healing process. In addition, we include a soothing and healing hydrogel to facilitate advanced healing.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO EXPERIENCE AFTER MY TREATMENT? IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?
After treatments, patients typically experience temporary discoloration or reddening of the skin around the treatment site. Make-up can be applied once inflammation subsides within the first 24 – 48 hours after treatment. Use of mineral-based makeup, such as Oxygenetix or Glo, is recommended to minimize the risk of irritation.
DOES LASER SKIN REJUVENATION HURT?
Patient’s report that the treatment is surprisingly comfortable. Numbing agents may be used in the treatment area to reduce any discomfort. We do offer cool compresses prior to treatment to ensure minimal discomfort. Our laser uses SoftCool™ cooling, where a continuous stream of cool damp air is blown onto the skin during the treatment for an even more comfortable experience.
CAN I PAY PER TREATMENT?
Yes, at Blue Water Spa all of our treatments are priced per session. Each individual will respond differently to treatment- some may require more treatments while others require less treatments. Clients come back because they have great results. Not because they have a binding long term contract.
PREPARING FOR YOUR LASER SKIN REJUVENATION TREATMENT
- Avoid sun exposure to the treatment area for at least 2 weeks before treatment. Do not use UV tanning beds for 4 weeks before treatment.
- Use a broad-spectrum sunblock with an SPF of 30 or above on a daily basis (rain or shine).
- Avoid self-tanner for 2 weeks before in the treatment area.
- The treatment area should be shaved to remove any hair, including fine, vellus hairs, prior to treatment to optimize the energy absorption.
- Do not use any topical products that cause photosensitivity (e.g., hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, retinols, and benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone) in the treatment areas for five days before treatment.
- Follow instructions regarding all oral prescription medications that we provided at your medical laser consultation. If you are taking any new or different medications, including antibiotics, contact our office prior to your appointment.
- Do not have any waxing, laser treatments, chemical depilatories, or exfoliating skin care procedures for 2 weeks prior to treatment
- Do not have injectable services, like fillers or Neurotoxins, for at least 7 days before treatment.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR LASER SKIN REJUVENATION APPOINTMENT
Following the consultation, if we determine you are a good candidate, we will proceed with scheduling your treatment. At your appointment, your laser technician will begin by asking a few pertinent questions about your recent health history to ensure there are no contraindications for treatment. The technician will discuss your treatment desires and at that time you can specifically let us know what areas and skin concerns you would like to treat. The treatment area will be cleansed and prepared for treatment. Your technician will talk you through the treatment to ensure you won’t experience any surprises. While receiving Laser Skin Rejuvenation treatments, you will be required to wear protective eyewear. You may still be able to see a flash of light, but your eyes will be completely covered. The laser technicians wear protective eyewear, as well. We are always mindful of your comfort and your peace of mind; we will let you know ahead of time what to expect.
AFTER YOUR LASER SKIN REJUVENATION TREATMENT
- It is normal to experience redness and swelling in the treatment area following laser skin rejuvenation. Petechiae (red/purple small spots) and acneiform eruptions can also occur. This may persist for several days. The treated area may feel like a sunburn for a few hours after treatment. Over-the-counter hydrocortisone or aloe vera may be used to alleviate redness and irritation. Discomfort may be relieved by taking an over-the-counter pain reliever. Additionally, cool compresses may be used at 10–20-minute intervals every 4–6 hours to promote comfort and alleviate inflammation. Do not apply ice directly over the treatment area.
- Avoid sun exposure to the treatment area for four weeks after treatment. If sun exposure is necessary, keep the treatment area covered. Do not use UV tanning beds at all for four weeks after treatment. Mineral sunscreen should be used by all patients in the treatment area, but especially in skin types 3-6 to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Pigmentation may darken, lighten, fade or even appear to have no change immediately after treatment. On average, it takes 4-6 weeks for your body to process the pigment.
- Do not have any waxing, laser treatments, chemical depilatories, or exfoliating skin care procedures for 2 weeks following treatment.
- Do not have injectable services, like fillers or Neurotoxins, for at least 7 days after treatment.
- Once per day, use a gentle soap to cleanse treatment area and pat dry. It is important to keep the treatment area moist for 7-10 days post treatment, or until the treatment area is healed. It would be ideal to recommend the application of a laser-friendly moisturizer twice per day for 7-10 days.
