PRF for Hair Regrowth FAQ
What is PRF?
PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, uses your body’s own stem cells to stimulate collagen production, tissue regeneration, and hair re-growth. During a PRF treatment, the patient’s blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge. This process separates the platelet-rich fibrin from the rest of the blood.
How long has Blue Water Spa been offering PRF?
Blue Water Spa has been offering the PRF facial since 2018 to improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Blue Water Spa and Plastic Surgery Partners staff have been trained to do this procedure using the protocol developed by Dr. Charles Runels, who first introduced the PRF skin treatment.
How does PRF for hair regrowth work?
PRF is applied to the scalp where hair loss has been experienced. This treatment uses the body’s own stem cells to generate new hair growth and thicken hair.
What causes hair loss?
Hair loss, or alopecia, can have many different causes. Medical conditions such as lupus or diabetes can contribute to hair loss, as can scalp irritation or hormonal imbalance. Other contributing factors may include protein, iron, or vitamin B12 deficiencies.
How should I prepare for the PRF for hair regrowth treatment?
Keep in mind that the healthier your PRF, the better your results will be. Therefore, you should rest, hydrate well, and eat a well-balanced diet before the treatment. Habitual smoking or vaping for one year before and one year after the treatment is not permitted. Anticoagulants should be avoided for 72 hours prior to treatment.
How much downtime is there after the treatment?
Shampoo, conditioners, and heat should be avoided for 48 hours post-treatment, including hot showers. The hair may be rinsed with cold water only. Exercise should be avoided for 24 hours post treatment.
What else can I do to improve my results?
LED light therapy and vitamin B12 injections enhance the results of PRF for hair regrowth treatments. We include these supplements to PRF here at Blue Water Spa.
Is there anything to help with anxiety about the treatment?
We offer Pro-Nox with PRF for hair regrowth. Pro-Nox is self-administered nitrous oxide that relieves anxiety associated with the treatment. You can ask one of our nurse practitioners about Pro-Nox during your PRF consult to learn more!
How successful is PRF for hair regrowth?
Patients generally have to receive this treatment four times before seeing optimum results and are advised to have a maintenance treatment every six to twelve months after the initial series of treatments. When this treatment plan is followed, the success rate is close to 80%.
